Seen on a curtain backing the stage of the Cabaret in the Star Trek: TNG season two episode #130 “The Outrageous Okona,” which aired the week of December 12, 1988. Charnock's Comedy Cabaret was a holographic simulation of a 20th century Earth comedy nightclub. The simulation included numerous comedians of Earth history, including The Comic -- Joe Piscopo. Data activated this simulation, on the advice of Guinan, to learn about humor. The audience were male and female nightclub patrons who were part of the program Data created to learn what was funny. Data discovered that the holographic audience was programmed to laugh at anything he said, regardless of whether it was funny, which lead him to realize his comedic delivery was flawed. Despite his earlier failures, Data managed to inadvertently make the crew laugh at the end of the episode, displaying a potential, albeit subconscious, growth in his understanding of humor. However, he still did not grasp why his joke was funny. Charnock's was named for art department painter Ed Charnock.
