The prop consists of a pine crate stained very light brown with the following burned into the top and two sides of the box: “Appellation LaBarre Controlee Château Picard Bourgogne Franche-Comte 2386 Product of France 12x750ml.” It also has a sketch of the vineyard and château burned in. The box measures 21 in. x 13 in. x 7 ½ in.” The box also came with the packing straw and the wood bottle holders.
This crate was production made for use in Château Picard in the Star Trek: Picard season three episode #301 “The Next Generation,” which aired the week of February 16, 2023. Château Picard in TNG was in La Barr, France which was in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté wine region. In season two Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Lombardi decided that Jean-Luc Picard would have vineyards in two locations – Bordeaux and Bourgogne. Thus, when they were making bottles and crates for season two, they made them for both locations. This Bourgogne crate, although a different date, was seen on screen in Picard’s study while he was searching for his TNG era combadge.
