Data Hero Epidermal Face Mold

Handled by Brent Spiner as Data in Doctor Noonian Soong’s lab in the Star Trek: TNG season one episode #114 “Datalore,” which aired the week of January 18, 1988.  In this episode the Enterprise crew investigated a mystery surrounding the disappearance of an earth colony in the Omicron Theta star system 26 years earlier. While visiting Data's home planet, the away team discovered a laboratory containing android body parts, including this mold, and then Data’s brother, Lore. Unbeknownst to the crew, Lore gained revenge on the planet's inhabitants before being disassembled by unleashing a ravenous crystal entity onto the colonists.  The epidermal face mold was a piece of manufactured technology used by Dr. Noonien Soong to shape and texture the outer skin layer of his Soong-type androids. When Data held up a face mold and placed it over his own face, it fit him precisely, and prompted Geordi to remark, "It's you, Data." The face mold (9 in. x 12 in. x 5 ½ in.) is a life cast of Spiner made from clear vacuum-formed acrylic. It is highlighted with thin white, black and metallic silver tape in various areas of the mold. The tape that was missing was restored with matching tape.
