Data is seen showing this picture to Geordi in his quarters in the Star Trek: TNG season six episode #242 “Birthright Part I,” which aired the week of February 22, 1993. While working on a cylinder in Engineering a tendril of energy was released that jolted Data to the floor. When he got up, he found himself in an eerie, surreal vision in one of the Enterprise's corridors with Dr. Noonian Soong. When he came out of his vision Captain Picard encouraged Data to explore what the vision represented to him personally. Data then returned to his quarters and painted various pictures of what he saw in his vision. “After I painted smoke, it occurred to me to paint a bird's wing. I then drew an entire bird. A flock of birds flying in formation. An individual feather. If the image of a bird is related to my vision, I do not understand how. I am left with more of a mystery than ever.” This 14 in. x 18 ½ in. piece is a color digital print of a black crow on canvas mounted on a stretcher bar. On the verso of the painting is a piece of tape that reads" #1." Alan Kobayshi TNG Scenic Artist/Graphic Designer, December 8, 2024.
