The Enterprise crew meets a Hekaran brother and sister, Rabal and Serova, who claim that according to their research, the use of warp-drive ships are slowly destroying the fabric of space in the Hekaras Corridor. Serova sacrifices her life to prove their theory by creating a dangerous rift in space.
