The stunt rifle (23 in. x 9 in. x 2 in.) is made of hard rubber and painted dark and light metallic gray with black grips and metallic silver accents. It has a black plastic sight, black plastic energy readouts painted blue and red and a silver-colored model number plate with a serial number.
Used in the Star Trek: Picard season one episode #105 “Stardust City Rag,” which aired the week of February 20, 2020. It was also seen on the armory racks of the Stargazer in season 2 as well as throughout all three seasons when applicable to stunt performances. A Type-III phaser (often simply referred to as a phaser rifle) was the Federation classification for the more powerful rifle variant of the standard Starfleet handheld phaser. The biggest difference between a "regular phaser" and the phaser rifle, was that the rifle was generally more powerful, operated with two hands and could recharge. With the threat of the Borg, the United Federation of Planets set out to create an even more powerful and resilient Phaser weapon that could be utilized by Heavy Troops. The Type III-C model was developed to meet those needs. The rifle was featured when Seven of Nine used two of them in the bar where she hunted and killed Bjayzl.
