Seen throughout the Star Trek: TNG season three episode #168 “Tin Man,” which aired the week of April 23, 1990. Tam Elbrun, a Betazoid who specialized in first contact with new life-forms, was assigned to establish mind contact with Tin Man (Gomtuu), an alien intelligence resembling an organic spaceship, which was orbiting a dying star about to explode -- Beta Stromgren. Captain Picard asked Elbrun to coax Gomtuu to move to safety, but Elbrun learned of Gomtuu's desire to commit suicide after the long-ago death of its crew. He and Data transported aboard Gomtuu and Elbrun established full contact with the him. Gomtuu returned Data to the Enterprise-D and shortly thereafter the star went supernova and Gomtuu disappeared. Data explained that Elbrun chose to remain with Gomtuu, having found at last the mental peace that he had searched for all his life. This model was based on Richard D.
