Used by Ed Speleers as Jack Crusher in the Star Trek: Picard season three episode #308 “Surrender,” which aired the week of April 6, 2023. Vadic took over the Titan and held hostages on the bridge. She demanded Jack Crusher presence, or she would kill hostages. After killing one Jack appeared from the Turbolift. Vadic had been sure the "baby boy" would decline her invitation, and Jack quipped that his mother taught him better manners than that. "I even brought you a gift," he added, as he lifted this unknown device in his hand. Vadic wondered if Jack thought his "gift" would kill her. Jack conceded it may or may not, but he was certain it would kill him. He demanded the release of the Titan's crew if she wanted him alive, so Vadic complied. Once Data defeated Lore he took possession of the Titan's comms, and addressed the ship as their "friendly, positronic, pissed-off security system" now back online. With the tide turned, Jack activated the device and enveloped him and Seven in a personal energy shield as the bridge evacuation hatch was opened. Vadic and her commander were pulled out into the vacuum of open space. A frozen Vadic collided into the nearby Shrike and shattered into pieces. The device is a resin sphere with decorative embossed and debossed markings painted metallic gray and gold that can be rotated around the center. The top has a clear red rectangular button that lights up when depressed. The circumference is 8 1/2”.
