Picard Nausicaan Sword Rig

The rig is composed of an aluminum blade (5 ½ in. x 1 in.) covered with stage blood and a black resin handle (5 ½ in. x 3 in.). Both pieces are mounted on flat black paper mâché formed circles backed by beige leather and held in place on the actors with black Velcro straps.

Worn by Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard and Marcus Nash as young Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek: TNG season six episode #241 “Tapestry,” which aired the week of February 15, 1993.  Gravely injured in a Lenarian attack, Picard slipped into a white, seamless limbo while Beverly struggled to save his life. There, he encountered Q, who informed Picard that he was dead, and this was the afterlife -- and that Q himself was God! Picard refused to believe that he was dead, let alone that Q was the Supreme Being. This special effects Nausicaan sword rig was worn twice in the episode when Picard was knifed in the back by the Nausicaan -- at the start by Marcus Nash and near the conclusion by Patrick Stewart. Ray Minarcik April 16, 2025 - Don Coleman Prop Fabrication Supervisor MEL.
