Riker’s Gambit Costume Concept Artwork

The pencil sketch is done on the back of half a piece of white script paper 5 ½ in. x 8 ½ in. Stappled to the sketch are three pieces of fabric used in the creation of the costume

Concept artwork used to design and build William Riker’s costume seen in the Star Trek: TNG season seven episode #256 “Gambit Part 1,” which aired the week of October 11, 1993.  Riker wore this costume when he, Worf, Troi, and Crusher, dressed in civilian clothes, are investigating Picard's disappearance in a dark, crowded, musty bar on Dessica II. Commander Riker learned about Captain Picard's supposed death from an Yridian trader named Yranac during this tense scene. Riker's undercover mercenary costume is a rugged, asymmetrical outfit featuring mixed materials like faux-fur, leather, and suede. It includes a piecemeal jacket with black pleated suede and jagged brown leather, designed to look distressed and worn for a "ragged" mercenary appearance. The jacket is dark-toned and textured, featuring diagonal or asymmetrical leather/suede patchwork. The full ensemble includes matching piecemeal design trousers and brown leather/black suede gauntlets. Heritage Hollywood/Entertainment Showcase Auction #41199, Lot 4146, Wednesday March 25, 2026 - Robert Blackman.
