Riker’s Ménage à Troi Blue Shirt Concept Artwork

The blue ink sketch is done on the back of half a piece of light blue script paper 5 ½ in. x 8 ½ in. Stappled to the sketch is a piece of fabric used in the creation of the costume.

Concept artwork used to design and build William Riker’s casual shirt seen in the Star Trek: TNG season three episode #172 “Ménage à Troi,” which aired the week of May 28, 1990.  Riker wore this shirt during a pivotal scene on Betazed, where he and Councilor Troi were enjoying a picnic with Lwaxana Troi and Mr. Homm before being abruptly beamed aboard the Ferengi ship Krayton by DaiMon Tog. The garment is a striking, long-sleeved aqua‑blue civilian shirt. Production notes identify it as “[#172, Riker, 1 civilian shirt — aqua w/ pleated v‑neck],” drawing attention to its distinctive pleated, multi‑line piped V‑neck. This same piping detail is repeated at the cuffs, creating a cohesive and stylish design well suited to Riker’s relaxed visit to Betazed with Councilor Troi.
