Concept artwork used to build Romulan devices seen in the Star Trek: TNG season four episode #198 “The Mind's Eye,” which aired the week of May 27, 1991.  After kidnapping Geordi La Forge in route to Risa the Romulans strapped him into the chair in this sketch and used the device pictured in the other sketch to exploit his VISOR as a direct conduit for brainwashing and sensory torture. They use E-band transmissions to connect directly to the neural implants in Geordi's temples. Because the connection was direct to his brain, Geordi could not "close his eyes" to escape the imagery. The Romulans forced him to witness horrific, simulated atrocities to desensitize him and break his will. They use specific E-band pulses to trigger deep-seated post-hypnotic suggestions, turning him into a sleeper agent intended to assassinate a Klingon governor.
