Design Notebook kept by Durinda Wood, TNG Costume Designer, for the episode “The Child.”
Used in the production of the Star Trek: TNG season two opening episode #127 “The Child,” which aired the week of November 21, 1988. In this episode counselor Deanna Troi was mysteriously impregnated by an unknown alien entity that was born and matured at a fantastic rate. It is a white three ring binder notebook with cover signed by costume designer Durinda Wood. The notebook contains various printed and handwritten notes, costume sketches with fabric samples, and polaroids of actors in costumes. Some of the notes include the following: Day-out-of-day-notes which indicate what actors were used on each day from 9/21/88 through 9/30/88; Oneliner Schedule dated 9/19/80 which contains listings from Wednesday 9/21/88 through 9/30/88 that indicate the filming location (ie. Bridge), stage #, scene number, character, and costume; Principal, Secondary and Extra Breakdown notes indicating scene and costume used; Women, men's and extra pages listing the sizes of all the extras including Jeremy Wheaton – 5’ 3”, shirt size 12, 26” waist, 6 1/2 shoes and age 12 and R. J. Williams – 4”8 ½”, 79 lbs., shit size 12, pants 12 and 5 shoes; Production Meeting notes from 8/31, 9/8, 9/9 and 9/15/88 with various interesting notes such as Picard “bigger chest pads,” Whoopi “Roddenberry had problem with #2 hat, he doesn't like the ‘wing’ look,” and Wes “worried about ‘string-bean’ look.” Julien’s Bid Long & Prosper Auction, Lot 83, Saturday November 9, 2024.
