“The Globe Illustrated Shakespeare” deluxe edition

“The Globe Illustrated Shakespeare” deluxe edition was published in 1986. It is bound in a dark blue leather cover with all edges gilt (8.5” x 11” x 3.75”). The cover and spine are stamped in gilt and red.

Seen in the clear display case (open to various pages) in Picard’s study in the following Star Trek: Picard episodes: season one #101 “Remembrance” (January 23, 2020), season two #201 “The Star Gazer” (March 3, 2022), and season three #301 “The Next Generation” (February 16, 2023). The pages shown in the above episodes were respectively: 778/779, 1220/1221, and 1058/1059. An identical published volume also appeared in Picard's ready room during the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Thereafter it appeared in Picard’s quarters. It also appeared in Picard’s quarters in Star Trek IX: Insurrection. Jean-Luc Picard loved the works of Shakespeare which is why he kept this book. He once told Data that embracing the works of Shakespeare was the best way to learn about the human condition.  Shakespeare was regularly referenced in Star Trek: The Next Generation and in Star Trek: Picard. Picard quoted Shakespeare for his toast in the final episode’s card game. “The Globe Illustrated Shakespeare” deluxe edition was published in 1986.
