Ventax II Matte Painting

This highly detailed painting has a common feature used in many matte backgrounds: a patch of painted black on the bottom. This enabled special effects artists to splice in live-action footage with the stationary illustration. In this case, it was a scene of panicked pedestrians fleeing during an earthquake on an elevated walkway, with computer animated fires and smoke added into the background. An enlarged Blu-ray screen cap was added to complete the scene. The matte painting is on a Masonite board and is 34" x 54".
