The hero phaser (8 in. x 2 in. x 2 in.), made by a prop maker who worked on Nemesis, is made of resin and painted black and metallic gray and features grooved handles, two static aluminum buttons, one operational aluminum button, a light up red and green power indicator (16 levels), and a silver light up emitter.
Used by Michael Dorn as Worf in the Star Trek: Picard season three episodes #303 “Seventeen Seconds,” which aired the week of March 22, 2023, and #308 “Surrender,” which aired the week of April 6, 2023. The “Dolphin” phaser was the next generation of hand phaser used by Starfleet and was first issued to the crew of the Enterprise in Star Trek Nemesis. It differed from its predecessors in its more streamlined shape, its switch from rectangular to round buttons, and silver-color emitter. It featured a set of dual power cells that glowed red/green and could reach up to level sixteen. In “Seventeen Seconds” Worf and Raffi captured Rikka and brought him onto the La Sirena to interrogate where he shook violently in his restraints. Worf recognized that Rikka was a Changeling, and what Raffi mistook for withdrawal symptoms were in fact the Changeling regenerating into a liquid form. Rikka taunted the "solids" that they were too late, the Federation would crumble. He finally dissolved into liquid and tried to escape, but Worf vaporized him with this phaser. The phaser came in a prop department clear zip lock bag labeled “DOLPHIN PHASER (HERO).”
