Zefram Cochrane’s CD and CD player

The CD player (the only one made) is made of black vacuum-formed plastic with painted and plastic detailing with 1/16-inch gray and white paper tape edgings and smokey acrylic winged edges. The octagonal CD is made of clear chartreuse acrylic rimmed in reflective small squares and a similar octagonal center piece and edged with gold and black tape.

Used by James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane in the feature film Star Trek VIII: First Contact, which opened on November 22, 1996.  Doctor Zefram Cochrane was a Human scientist in the 21st century and a pivotal figure in Human history. He invented warp drive and used it on Earth’s first warp ship -- the Phoenix. After traveling back in time to 2063 to help Cochrane, Riker and Geordi were about to abort the Pheonix takeoff until Cochrane found this CD and placed it in the CD player and said "Let's rock'n' roll!" Cochrane was a fan of rock and roll music and blasted "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf during the launch.
